Beaver Meadows police took two alleged illegal immigrants from Norristown into custody after a traffic stop on state Route 93.

Police Chief Mike Morresi said he asked the passengers of the pickup truck for identification after they appeared nervous when he pulled the vehicle over for speeding.

One of the men, Alfonso Nava-Blancas, 43, had a valid but expired Pennsylvania driver's license.

Morresi said the man voluntarily admitted to being in the country illegally for the past three years.

He was unsure how the man obtained a driver's license. A call to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation press office was not immediately returned Thursday.

Morresi said when he asked the other passenger in the vehicle for identification, Jesus Nava-Blancas, 37, gave him a Mexican voter's registration card, and police found he had been in the country illegally since 2008. Morresi said a criminal records check on Jesus showed that he was wanted in Idaho and had a criminal history including assault, providing false information to police and petty theft.

Jesus will not be extradited to Idaho, Morresi said, but both men were taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The driver of the truck, Jose Gonzalez-Millan, 29, was cited for speeding and released, Morresi said.

The men told police they were going to Hazleton to look for work, Morresi said.
