A Manassas man has been arrested and charged with choking a man to death during a fight, Prince William County police said yesterday.
Christian Molina, also known as Jose Maximo Flores-Perales, 30, was drinking with two men at a friend's house in the 10600 block of Dumfries Road in the Manassas area when a fight broke out about 5:20 p.m. Sunday, police said.
It is unknown what started the fight, but at one point, Molina choked Ronald D. Hollingsworth, 51, until he stopped moving, Officer Erika Hernandez, a police spokeswoman, said yesterday.
The third man, who was not involved in the fight, called 911, police said. He was not identified by police.
Hollingsworth, who lived in a shack near where the fight occurred, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, the medical examiner's office found that Hollingsworth's injuries were consistent with strangulation, and police obtained a murder warrant, Hernandez said.
Molina, of Whispering Pine Court, was arrested Tuesday and was being held without bond. In addition to charging him with murder, police obtained a detainer against him from federal immigration authorities.
A fingerprint analysis showed that Molina, who is from El Salvador, was deported from the United States in 2003 and 2005, police said. In 2005, he was deported because of criminal activity and illegal status, they said.
"Once he's done with the criminal process for what he's been charged, whether he is found guilty or not, he is facing deportation," Hernandez said.
The county is cracking down on illegal immigrants, having passed some of the toughest measures in the state this summer. The measures, approved by the Board of County Supervisors in a unanimous vote July 10, would deny public services to illegal immigrants and direct officers to check the status of anyone in custody suspected of being an illegal immigrant.
Last week, the immigrant rights group Mexicans Without Borders held a week-long economic boycott to protest the measures.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
