MIGEUL ALEMAN, Tamps. - Mexican troops confiscated more than 1.5 tons of pot from a tractor-trailer Monday, according to a news release from Mexico’s Ministry of Defense.

Soldiers set up a checkpoint in a federal highway connecting the cities of Miguel Aleman, across the Rio Grande from Roma, and Ciudad Mier, about eight miles west of Roma, officials said. That’s how they found the narcotics.

Troops searched the tractor-trailer, where more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana was found, officials said. Soldiers arrested the driver, whom officials did not identify, and turned him over to the proper authorities.
