Marijuana found mixed with shipment of plastic bottles

DETROIT, MI - (October 7) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers inspecting a commercial truck at the Fort Street Cargo Facility found boxes of marijuana mixed in with a shipment of plastic bottles.

On October 6, 2008 at approximately 11:45 p.m., CBP officers at the Fort Street Cargo Facility encountered a 28-year old Canadian citizen as he arrived from Windsor, Canada in a commercial truck.

The truck was selected for further inspection during which the officers discovered several boxes that contained what appeared to be marijuana.

The officers tested the contents resulting in its positive identification as marijuana.

A total of twenty boxes containing plastic bags of marijuana totaling 328 kilograms, (721 pounds) were removed from the truck.

The marijuana has a estimated street value in excess of $2.5 million (U.S.).

The driver was turned over to immigration and customs enforcement agents for further processing and prosecution.
