Marriage fraud charged at N.H. visa center
Marriage fraud charged at NH visa center
Feb 2, 2011
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — A contract employee at the National Visa Center in Portsmouth, N.H., is facing federal charges he offered women cash to marry his son "on paper" so he could become a U.S. citizen.
Federal authorities say Ahmed Mohamed Abdrabo was arrested Tuesday by U.S. marshals on charges of conspiracy, false statements, fraud and misuse of visas. Officials did not provide Abdrabo's age or hometown.
Officials say that in November Abdrabo approached the co-worker and asked if the co-worker knew any single women who would marry his son "on paper" for compensation. The next day Abdrabo asked the co-worker to call his daughter because she spoke better English.
The Portsmouth Herald says the co-worker reported the offer.
