Group forming in support of immigration

FRAMINGHAM -- A group of community leaders is trying to add a new voice to the debate over immigration.
Still in its forming stages, the group has been holding informal meetings over the past year to find out the best way to counter messages of a local organization that opposes illegal immigration.
The group, which doesn't have a name yet, includes nearly 40 people. Among them are town officials, civic leaders, church pastors and representatives from the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce. A few members of the Brazilian community, the largest and most visible ethnic group in town, are also taking part.
The group's goal is to bring some balance to the local debate over immigration, which several members say has been one-sided -- focusing only on immigration's negative aspects and fostering a climate of hate in the community.
Activists say the group aims to make sure Framingham continues to be a welcoming community to all residents, including immigrants.
"We're here to fight a particular idea that is being impregnated in Framingham, the idea of hatred against one particular group," said Pastor Manoel Oliveira of Comunidade Presbiteriana Nova Vida (New Life Presbyterian Church), a group member.
"Today they're against Brazilians, tomorrow it will against someone else," he said. "This is not a group to defend Brazilians, but to defend the rights of people to belong to the community. People have the right to express their opinions, but that doesn't give them the right to threaten people or to say things that are not appropriate or untruthful."
Concerned Citizens and Friends of Illegal Immigration Law Enforcement member Jim Rizoli has said Brazilian illegal immigrants are using services paid for by Framingham taxpayers and that "Framingham has been turned into a Brazilian slave camp."
His brother, Joe Rizoli, who founded the group with Jeffrey Buck, last year said "Framingham has been raped by Brazilians."
On Monday evening, the new group gathered at the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation to continue the conversation they stopped before the past municipal elections, in which Jim Rizoli ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Board of Selectman.
Those on hand watched the PBS movie "Farmingdale," about a Long Island, N.Y., community that has struggled with immigration issues in recent years.
Among the group's plans are airing a local cable television program to discuss immigration issues; launching a campaign to highlight the contributions made by immigrants; and educating people about the complexity of immigration. Also in the plans are inviting representatives from all ethnic groups in the community to be part of the group and organizing activities in which different ethnic groups can interact with one another.
Raising awareness in the community about issues of immigration is an important aspect in the work ahead, said Christine Taylor, director of the Framingham Adult English as a Second Language Plus program, who also takes part in the group's meetings.
"Immigration is not a black-and-white issue," she said. "To say illegal is illegal don't present the whole story. One day, you can be illegal, and the next day you can have your green card. Our government provides mechanisms for people to adjust their immigration status. There is a lot of misinformation out there."
The idea of the group grew out of the meetings a few community leaders held early last year, in the weeks prior to the passing of the town's proclamation welcoming people from all backgrounds and asking people to stand against bigotry, prejudice and hatred.
For state Rep. Deborah Blumer, D-Framingham, the group will help ensure all individuals and groups are treated with respect and protected from intimidation and discrimination.
"We need to take a step back and talk about immigration in general," she said. "We need to find out how we, as a community, come together and do some education about immigration."Please support our fight against illegal immigration by joining ALIPAC's email alerts here https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

RACE to the phone and call all the senators and representatives listed in the numbersusa.com email and let them know how you feel!!
The people in Framingham are "meeting" to strategize a "lie".
Otherwise....why don't they just do their jobs and create some jobs for Americans and stop pandering to illegal aliens.

The race card AGAIN.
"Immigration is not a black-and-white issue," she said. "To say illegal is illegal don't present the whole story. One day, you can be illegal, and the next day you can have your green card. Our government provides mechanisms for people to adjust their immigration status. There is a lot of misinformation out there."
The one "mechananism" I like to see is the one of deportation. That way they can be legal in their own country and don't have to be concerned with silly little things like immigration status.

LEGAL = Green Card BEFORE you cross the border. Period!
With regards to "educating the public about illegal immigration"....well, I think we're way ahead of her there.....
WE are learning more about this problem and all the graft, corruption, criminal behavior that created it than any of us would like to know.
I doubt seriously if we'll have any new FACTs from the MASSHUSETTS 40....just a bunch of spinsters trying to justify illegal criminal acts against the people of the United States!A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

State Rep. Deborah Blumer also needs to "educate" herself that aiding illegal aliens is a crime.

Well, this group has the Wall Street Journal on their side.
Once again, in today's paper the Journal comes out swinging against the "right wing anti-immigrants".
You'd think at some point this crap would get old to them, but no. They sound just like La Raza and the ACLU.It's like hell vomited and the Bush administration appeared.
