More than $2 million in marijuana was seized Tuesday west of Sells.

Agents on the ground and in the air discovered two vehicles, a silver Chevy extended-cab truck, and a red H2 Hummer, hidden under camouflage-patterned tarps and concealed in the dense brush. A short time later, a third vehicle, a dark-color Dodge truck, was discovered nearby, hidden under a camo-tarp and concealed with brush.

The three vehicles were loaded with a total of 4,311 pounds of marijuana that had an estimated street value of $2,155,500.

All the vehicles were seized and the narcotics were transported to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station for processing.

“It was good seizure,” said Agent Brent Cagen, of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Often times what our agents work off is communication we have with other law enforcement agencies, the communication we have with our community members.

That really is a big part of what we rely on — the intel we get from our community members,” he said of tips received from area residents.

Suspicious activity can be reported to the Border Patrol at 1-877-872-7435 toll free. Callers remain anonymous.
