MATT: Calderon should be praised for drug war efforts

This is from an e-mail alert sent out by MATT.org (Mexicans and Americans Talking Together), a pro-open borders, pro-illegal immigration, pro-Mexican group of the usual OBL group including local elected officials from both sides of the border.......they are asking for your comments regarding their opinion that Calderon should be commended for his courage and leadership re: the Mexican drug war...they must be joking...he had his hand out for money via the Merida initiative and we gave him 100 million dollars a few months back with no measures for accountability...and the violence and the smuggling haven't subsided ...it's gotten worse....and now he wants even more money. A physical barrier along our southern border that would make it extremely difficult if not impossible for smuggler's vehicles to get through would sure go a long way....we don't need to keep giving Mexico any more money .....they misuse it and have nothing to show for it. They are completely delsusional on this issue.

    Dear friends

A significant meeting between President-elect Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon took place on Monday, where both leaders committed to strengthen the ties between the U.S. and Mexico. The two leaders reportedly discussed border security and immigration, and Obama described the U.S. relationship with Mexico as "critical" to the economy. Obama's message to Calderon is that his administration "is going to be ready on day one" to work to build stronger relations with Mexico. He went on to express admiration for Calderon's "extraordinary courage and leadership" in dealing with drug trafficking.

MATT.org applauds Mexican President Felipe Calderon's courage and conviction in combating drug traffickers and organized crime. We hope to see continued cooperation on both sides of the border to promote security and order for the benefit of both countries.

What do you think? Do you agree with President Bush's comments on Tuesday, "The less drugs we use, the less pressure there will be in Mexico. We have got responsibilities to help prevent guns from going from the United States into Mexico." Tell us what you think on our blog.

    Sincerely,

President Felipe Calderon's courage and conviction in combating drug traffickers and organized crime.
The desperation shown by the drug cartels does prove that Calderon's war against them is real. You don't have to like the man to give him credit for keeping his promise to fight them.
