MATTIS AUTHORIZES NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO STAY ON THE BORDER FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Defense Secretary James Mattis authorized the National Guard troops deployed to the southwest border to stay there for another year, the Pentagon confirmed Friday.

Mattis granted a 12-month extension of the current deployment order, which authorizes up to 4,000 guardsmen to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents until Sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year.

The extension permits the same deployment through Sept. 30, 2019, Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Jamie Davis told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“It’s the same mission, the same set up,” Davis said.

The border deployment, dubbed Operation Guardian Support, kicked off April 13 in response to President Donald Trump’s call to use the military to guard against rising illegal immigration. A joint operation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the mission aims to provide surveillance and logistical support to border agents, freeing them up to interdict drug and human smuggling.

There are currently about 2,200 National Guard soldiers deployed to the four states along the southwest border, Davis said. There are 1,145 soldiers in Texas, 115 in New Mexico, 580 in Arizona and 360 in California.

The border states are contributing the majority of the guardsmen deployed with Guardian Support, while several other states are providing aviation assets. Other states participating in the mission as of June were Missouri, Indiana, Maine, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida, reports Stars and Stripes.

It remains unclear how the Pentagon will fund a border deployment in the next fiscal year. For the current deployment, Congress granted reprogramming requests that allow the Pentagon to shift hundreds of millions of dollars from the Army’s general account to its personnel account for the National Guard.

The same funding mechanism is expected to be used in FY2019, Davis said.

MORE THAN HALF A DOZEN STATE GOVERNORS PULL NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS FROM THE BORDER

Eight states have decided to either forgo sending National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border or to withdraw already deployed troops as of Tuesday.

Democratic Governors from Connecticut, Delaware, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Virginia, as well as Republican governors in Massachusetts and Maryland announced their decision to abstain from helping to secure the southern border. The move comes as the Trump administration is facing increased backlash over policies separating families of immigrants when they illegally enter the U.S.

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation in April for the National Guard to be deployed to the border, requesting between 2,000 and 4,000 troops, reported NPR. At the time, the proclamation was met with mixed reactions.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker rescinded his offer to send two military analysts and one helicopter on Monday, with Colorado and New York governors following suit.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted on Tuesday that he is recalling four soldiers and one helicopter from Arizona.

    @GovernorVA

Today I'm recalling four Virginia National Guard soldiers and one helicopter from Arizona. Virginia will not devote any resource to border enforcement actions that support the inhumane policy of separating children from their parents. https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/all-releases/2018/june/headline-826714-en.html …

Delaware Gov. John Carney also said on Tuesday that he declined to send the National Guard, according to The New York Times.

“Under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t hesitate to answer the call, but given what we know about the policies currently in effect at the border, I can’t in good conscience send Delawareans to help with that mission,” he said.

Apparently the Governors of these states sent their National Guard there to roll out the Welcome mat instead of protecting our country.

We need more than the National Guard on the border. It is unacceptable for 40-50 thousand illegal aliens to have encounters each month with Border Patrol. There are many more thousands that escape capture which is even more inexcusable.

Agree this is more than just people sneaking in, they are attacking to get in. Article a couple days ago that over 450 Border Patrol had been injured since the beginning of the year.. Then there was the article about the Border Patrol that was attacked, and he fought back and wrestled the invader to the ground and put his boot on the invaders chest (like he had been taught to do) and guess who went to prison for 2 years. It wasn't the invader.

We need the full military on the border and treat this like what it is an invasion.

NO MORE TURNING YOURSELF IN AND CALLING 911

SEND ALL MINORS UNDER 18 BACK INTO THE CARE AND CUSTODY OF THEIR PRESIDENT

SEND ALL ADULTS DIRECTLY TO TENT CITY FOR PROCESSING AND SERVE TIME!
ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
