Mayor of Hazelton on CBS News Yesterday

The mayor of Hazelton was on the CBS Evening News last night. He explained how illegals were using social services that were intended for legal residents. He claimed that the city could no longer afford to pay for illegals and that due to that they came up with the strongest ordinances they have. He spoke of not allowing them to rent in the city and the consequences of businesses hiring illegals. CBS also mentioned that many other cities have begun passing such ordinances due to the same problem Hazelton had.
This is long over due as the media in the past has only given us their sob stories.

I wish I would have seen this. I hope others in my community saw it. Ever since our city passed an anti-illegal ordinance, certain people in the community, mainly representatives from the Catholic church, have been writing editorials in the paper and on talk radio and other venues chastising our city leaders and community in general for being so mean-spirited and uncharitable. They really don't seem to understand the ramifications of rampant illegal immigration. They seem to have this "romanticized" vision of "helping the poor and downtrodden" and don't consider the negative effects.

I heard a rumor that Mayor Barletta was going to be interviewed on 60 minutes. But, maybe this is what was being talked about. I agree, it is way overdue time for the other side of the issue to be discussed.

The video 'Immigration Gumballs' is an effective 15 minute synopsis from Roy Beck of NumbersUSA. There is a thread in 'Pictures' with a link to it. After watching it send your OWN letter to the editor.

The Catholic church supports the illegals because they are mainly Catholic, attend services and donate to the kitty. I'm sure they want to help the downtrodden but they want the bucks too. Heck, how will they pay off all those pedophile lawsuits????

I did see the "Immigration Gumballs" and agree it really puts the issue into perspective. I also wrote and had published a letter to the editor as well as wrote and received a response from the Bishop's office. These people are hopeless, but I hope to reach the ones who are not. Thanks!
