in New Haven, Conn. In May 2006, immigrant-rights
activists marched in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Illegal immigrants in San Francisco and other residents will be able to get an identification card that establishes residency in The City under a plan in the works by Supervisor Tom Ammiano, which has the support of Mayor Gavin Newsom.

If The City were to adopt a municipal identification program, it would follow in the footsteps of New Haven, Conn., which began issuing local IDs in July. To date, about 3,000 of the cards have been issued.

THIS MAKES ME SICK SINCE I LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO. HOWEVER, THE "NEW UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM" IS NOT NEW AT ALL. THEY JUST SHIFTED THE COST, OR SOME OF THE COST TO EMPLOYERS. AND GAVE IT A NEW NAME. THEY HAVE BEEN COVERING ILLEGALS FOR DECADES. ANYONE WHO WALKS IN THERE JUST HAS TO SHOW A PHONE BILL OR PGE BILL WITH A CITY ADDRESS AND THEY ARE IN. SO THIS IS NOTHING NEW. NEITHER IS CITY SPONSORED HEALTH CARE IF YOU ARE POOR. THEY HAVE A SLIDING SCALE SYSTEM.

RFLMAO....NO. "THE SAN FRANCISCO TREAT"? DONT KNOW WHERE THEY GET THAT. LIKE IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE SOME KIND OF SAN FRANCISCO TRADITION OR SOMETHING. NO. THERE IS NO CONNECTION EXCEPT THAT I THINK ITS MADE BY GOLDEN GRAIN THAT USE TO HAVE THEIR PLANT IN SAN FRANCISCO....BUT NOT ANYMORE.
