    McCain’s immigration zigzag

    McCain’s immigration zigzag

In a gutsy move, presumptive Republican nominee John McCain dared Democratic rival Barack Obama to a face-to-face meeting next month, at the annual convention of the National Council of La Raza, a civil rights group.

Sure, it was a campaign gimmick. Both candidates already plan to speak at separate sessions, and both will address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference next week.

But if Obama called McCain’s bluff and agreed to share the stage, it would be McCain, longtime friend and advocate of the Latino community, who would face the tougher questioning against Obama, whose record on Hispanic issues is comparatively shallow.

Lou Dobbs was very upset today about Senator McCain's behind closed door meeting with the large numbers of Hispanics in which McCain assured them that "comprehensive immigration reform" was going forward if he was elected. Lou said that McCain was pandering away to the special interests.

I saw this article earlier on Politico's home page. What biased, sloppy reporting by Gebe Martinez, for example -- referring to opponents of amnesty for illegal aliens as "immigration opponents" and publishing quotes from two open border, pro-amnesty zealots (Munoz and Sharry) while using none from pro-immigrant, pro-enforcement activists.

So typical of MSM reporting on illegal immigration.
