McCain tells Mexico: Border security first

MEXICO CITY, July 5 (UPI) -- Presumptive Republican U.S. presidential nominee John McCain told Mexican leaders security at the border is a precondition of immigration reform.

McCain ended a visit to Colombia and Mexico Thursday, The Arizona Republic reported.

"I believe we must have comprehensive immigration reform. The American (OTCBB:ADGI) people want our borders secured first," McCain said at a Mexico City news conference. "That will require some walls. It will require virtual fences. It will require high-technology equipment. We must secure our borders, and then we will address the issue of comprehensive immigration reform."

McCain was one of the authors of an immigration reform bill that failed to get any traction in Congress, and caused him to lose support among illegal immigration hard-liners. Since then, he has toughened his stance on the issue.

McCain, accompanied by his wife, Cindy, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, also visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the most important Catholic shrine in Mexico.

Well I hope he is true to his word.

It would help if the United States would actually have the guts to do something about illegal immigration.

Somebody needs to ask him, "first before WHAT?" He needs to be hammered on two points. First, his concept of securing the border quite simply is having Perry, Richardson, Napolitano & Schwarzenegger write letters certifying their respective portions of the border as secure. Those will be ready about 15 minutes after his coronation. Secondly, once he has those letters in hand, what precisely does he have in mind? I'd opine, he'll quite simply dust off the old Kennedy-McCain bill and assert his authority to have the democrat congress send it to him. This guy only wants a limo ride to prove he's achieved a higher office than his father and grandfather. He's too old, too sick and too liberal to be the most powerful man in the world. And because it took him 25 years to catch on to the people's illegal alien mandate, you measure his intelligence and judgement. How secure is that?
