A man believed to be involved in the killing of a 22-year-old man in El Paso in 2002 was found in Mexico and deported to the U.S. on Friday.
Alfredo Holguin, 37, was wanted in the death of Mark Cedillo.
Holguin was stopped in Juarez this week by Mexican officials, police said. A check by Mexico's law enforcement agencies and the attorney general's office revealed that Holguin had an outstanding capital murder warrant in El Paso.
It was believed by officials that Holguin was hiding out in Mexico.
Officials with the El Paso Police Department allege Holguin shot and killed Cedillo in East El Paso.
Cedillo was confronted by the two men in the parking lot of a shopping strip at 1491 Lee Trevino just after 5 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2002.
After both men confronted him, police allege he was forced into their car, according to El Paso Times archives.
During the kidnap attempt Cedillo struggled and he was shot in the upper body.
On Friday, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals, and the Customs and Border Protection were involved in Holguin's extradition.
Holguin was booked into the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of capital murder with no bond.
The other man believed to be involved, Benito Felix Holguin, was killed in a Juarez bar shooting in August in 2009 at the Seven & Seven bar in Juarez.
