Police say three of four young immigration activists arrested for refusing to leave the Tucson office of Sen. John McCain have been turned over to immigration authorities.
Lizbeth Faviola Mateo, 25, Yahaira Carrillo, 25, Raul Alcaraz-Ochoa, 27 and Mohammed Alibelik-Abdollani, 24, were arrested for criminal trespass Monday evening, said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a police spokeswoman.
Three told officers they were in the country illegally, and a routine hold was placed on them when they were booked into the county jail.
Mateo, Carrillo and Alibelik-Abdollani were in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody Tuesday afternoon, said Vincent Picard, an ICE spokesman.
The four were protesting the lack of federal action on the DREAM Act, a bill in Congress that would grant citizenship to undocumented students who demonstrate good moral character.
