MD: Man charged in e-mail threat to O'Malley

This is sad. Empathize with the man because I have a close relative who is all but squeezed out of construction due to illegals.
This man must have reached a breaking point out of frustration because his so-called 'elected representatives' aren't listening.
If our politicians were squeezed out of their jobs something would be done.

Man charged in e-mail threat to O'Malley
Construction worker had complained to governor about losing work to illegal immigrants

Walter C. Abbott Jr. has sent e-mails from time to time to the governor and state legislators complaining about losing construction work to illegal immigrants.

He never received anything but a form-letter type response.

This week, the 44-year-old Parkville man added something extra to his e-mail: a threat to strangle Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Within five hours, three Maryland state troopers responded to the e-mail. Abbott was arrested Tuesday and charged with threatening a public official.

He was being held Thursday night at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $2 million bail.

Abbott's wife of 23 years, Linda, said the e-mail was sent in frustration and that her husband would never actually hurt anyone.

"He was just mad. He's lashing out. It was just words," she said tearfully. "He's a hard-working man. He's always supported us. All he wants is work. And these illegals are taking his work."

A spokeswoman from the governor's office declined to comment on the e-mail.

But Greg Shipley, a spokesman for the state police, which assigns a trooper to accompany O'Malley and several other officials at all times, said state police investigated the threat and arrested Abbott after consulting with Baltimore County prosecutors.

Such threats are investigated on a routine basis, he said, although he declined to characterize them as "common."

"That's a big reason we have an executive protection unit," he said. "We know that people do make threats and we feel that [public officials] can be in jeopardy from time to time. We take those threats seriously."

A construction worker, Walter Abbott puts up drywall and does other work for a variety of subcontractors. He earned about $22,000 last year, according to court records.

His wife said that he has been losing jobs in recent years to illegal immigrants who seek work from the same contractors. "It's been so tough here, trying to pay the bills," she said.

He has e-mailed complaints about the governor's immigration policies, but never received any real response, his wife said.

On Tuesday, at 7 a.m., Walter Abbott logged onto O'Malley's official Web site. He wrote a letter expressing his frustration with illegal workers in the area. And, according to charging documents, he wrote that he was going to kill the governor by strangling him.

Abbott signed the letter with his full name, address and phone number.

Two hours later, the governor's executive protection unit contacted a sergeant with the state police. At 11:50 a.m., Sgt. Adam Stachurski and two other troopers went to Abbott's Parkville home.

He admitted sending the e-mail and told the troopers that he blames O'Malley for his struggling construction business, according to charging documents.

At a bail review hearing on Wednesday, Baltimore County District Judge Bruce S. Lamdin ordered that Abbott be evaluated by a psychiatrist with the state's Health and Mental Hygiene Department.

The defendant's wife said she hopes that authorities soon realize that her husband is not a danger to the governor.

"When we first moved into our house, we had mice. We put out sticky traps and he'd peel the mice off them and take them across the street to let them loose in the fields," she said. "He's not a person who would hurt anyone."

It is a sad day when it comes to Americans reacting this strongly to the increased tension from the circumstances caused by illegals taking jobs.

$22,000.00 is not much of an income, we are now more than that, but there was a time when that was us, and it barely pays the rent, let alone everything else. To lose what little he had and not feel he could do anything about it is sad. It is a sympton of a sick government who would ignore it's people for invaders.

This was not right to act in this way, and there will likely be a price to pay for it, but understanding where he was at, seeing illegals get away with murder at times, and all else, and then see that your family is sinking, must have been a breaking point. I hope, someone form the MD government will spend some time talking with this man and his family and find out what they can do to help.

And the governor said "let them eat cake"; businesses need cheap labor and illegals are people too!

I certainly do empathize with this poor guy. With that being said, one cannot go around making threats, especially against these hyper-sensitive, feel good, do nothing politicians we have in office supposedly who have sworn to protect the interests of those American Citizens who elected them into office.

This letter seems rather tame compared to some of the letters I have seen from the illegal invader sympathizers who often use the most vile, hate filled language, when expressing their desire to do harm to those who want the rule of law enforced in this country.

If anyone doubts this, just ask Glen Beck or Michelle Malkin about all the letters they receive. I guess they don't count since they are not elected officials.

NoBueno, no it does not count when it is them or some of us. We can have all manner of threats against us for speaking the truth (as with the media people who do as well), but not for the lame politicians who never seem to do their jobs.

Also, notice, the man who made the threat was a citizen, not an illegal alien, there was his mistake, had he been an illegal alien , he would have gotten away with it (he could have chalked it up as a cultural misunderstanding!!!).

I bet this wasnt the only man that complained to O'Malley. But all of their letters were ignored. O'Malley even pushed for Day Labor Centers to be built so that illegal aliens could receive help finding jobs.

"He was just mad. He's lashing out. It was just words," she said tearfully. "He's a hard-working man. He's always supported us. All he wants is work. And these illegals are taking his work."
How sad it is that an American is put in such a dire position because of our Federal government, the Bush Administration, and many traitors who were elected by "the people" to represent "the people" but instead support the interests of "big business" and other "ethnic special interest groups".
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

Builder details his path to trial
    Dan Rodricks

    April 3, 2008

Walter Abbott, the Parkville contractor accused of threatening Gov. Martin O'Malley, claims illegal aliens "ruined my life" because their presence in the Baltimore-area labor force over the last two decades kept him from getting drywall work. Abbott, on home detention awaiting trial, told me he's received phone calls of support from people who share his views -- of immigrants and/or O'Malley -- and hail him a hero.

Abbott attributes to "illegals" most of his financial problems of the last two decades. Most conservatives I know despise that kind of blame-someone-else victim mentality. That the anti-O'Malley crowd would support this guy seems odd.

Still, I asked Abbott why, if he knew of illegal immigrants in Baltimore County, he had not reported them to the federales. That would probably have been more effective than sending O'Malley a threatening e-mail.

Abbott said he had "tried to call" the Immigration and Naturalization Service but had been frustrated by the INS' automated switchboard. "There were too many buttons to push," he said. "How to get a green card, how to get a work permit -- everything except how to get them out of here."
