From Senator Chambliss' office:

MEDIA RELEASE FROM GEORGIA SENATOR SAXBY CHAMBLISS ON AgJOBS AMNESTY

AgJobs

Senator Chambliss has led the opposition to the AgJobs bill since the 108th Congress when he got to the Senate.

He has led the fight on the Senate floor by introducing legislation and amendments to offer an alternative that does not provide amnesty but does allow agricultural employers to utilize the existing legal program - the H-2A program.

Most recently, before Congress adjourned for the August recess, Senators Craig and Feinstein tried to attach AgJobs to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill for FY 2008. Senator Chambliss went to the floor to speak in opposition citing his opposition to the amnesty portion of the bill.

Senators Craig and Feinstein then indicated their intention to try to add AgJobs to the Farm Bill. As Ranking Member on the Agriculture Committee, Senator Chambliss will again be prepared to ensure any debate on agricultural workers focuses on what is truly needed - access to temporary legal workers and not amnesty for current illegal workers.
