Letter: Illegal immigrants shouldn't be hired

The immigration question now has an answer. On Jan. 1, Arizona became the first state to require all employers to confirm workers' legal status via the federal "E-Verify" system.

After six weeks, Arizona's system was working. Illegals are self-deporting. Illegals know E-Verify makes it impossible for them to fabricate Social Security numbers and fake IDs to obtain jobs.

If there are no jobs, illegals will go home. Plus, E-Verify is a free service.

This may be an excellent way to control our illegal immigration problems while easing the fears of legal immigrants about the ICE issue.

Now maybe our leaders will do some research into the success of this law and vote to establish a similar law on a national level.

Our legislators have failed to secure our borders by other means. Maybe this new law will open some eyes in Congress and get them to establish similar laws.

After all, isn't this why we elected them in the first place?
