Two members of the Mexican federal police were charged today after they were found with half a million dollars believed to be drug money, the district attorney's office said.
Authorities raided a West Covina home Wednesday as a part of an ongoing investigation and arrested Victor Manuel Juarez, 36, and Carlos Cepano Filippini, 34, who were confirmed to be members of Mexican federal police agency Agencia Federal de Investigacion, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney.
All four were expected to be arraigned this afternoon and are being held on $2 million bail. Each faces one felony count of possession of money as part of narcotics trafficking. If convicted, the defendants face up to four years each in state prison.
Drug Enforcement Administration officials found more than $500,000 in cash believed to be related to narcotics trafficking at the residence, Robison said. Two others, Hector Manuel Lopez, 33, and Julisa Lopez, 35, were also arrested for alleged possession of narcotics money.

WEST COVINA - Two men believed to be Mexican federal police officers were arrested along with two others Wednesday on suspicion of being part of a narcotics ring at a home in an unincorporated county area near West Covina, authorities said.
Victor Manuel Jaurez, 36, and Carlos Cepano Filippini, 34, were taken into custody by a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Jane Robison said. They are both believed to members of the Agencia Federal de Investigacion.
Filippini is a commander in the AFI, she said. Juarez's rank was not clear Friday.
Hector Manuel Lopez, 33, and Julisa Lopez, 35, were also arrested at the home, Robison said.
Filippini and Julisa Lopez are husband and wife, she added.
Charges were filed against the four Friday in Downtown Los Angeles with possession of money as part of narcotics trafficking, DEA and DA's officials said.
Both Robison and Special Agent Sarah Pullen of the DEA declined to give any further details of the raid, including the location and time it took place.
More then $500,000 in cash believed to be tied to the drug trade was seized from the home, Robison said.
The suspects were charged with possession of money as part of narcotics trafficking, Robison said.
Narcotics investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department assisted the DEA in the raid, LAPD officials said.
Representatives of the LAPD said no information on the raid was available through
their agency.
The case is being prosecuted by the district attorney's office's Major Narcotics Division.
The suspects are due for arraignment on Aug. 18, said.
She added that all four suspects are being held in lieu of $2 million and face up to four years in prison if convicted.

My question is: were they here illegally, or seeking santuary from drug cartel violence, or perhaps training to fight the drug wars on US taxpayer dollars?

This sounds like a HUGE drug ring involving an official with Mexico's AFI (which is the equivalent of our FBI) and what could turn out to be some powerful Mexican politicians in L.A.! If the layers of corruption are peeled back, who knows...it could be traced all the way up to the mayor's office or members of L.A. City Council! Certainly, it will involve corrupt Mexican officials in W. Covina or surrounding areas.
We know the drug cartels control the gangs of L.A....and the gangs control the streets AND the elected officials! But this involves Mexico's equivalent of the FBI...the AFI!!!

This country needs to boot out ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, and corrupt politicians who dont give a damn of where our country is headed.
I DONT CARE HOW MUCH IT COSTS, DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND ANCHOR BABIES.
Our lawmakers dont care much for Americans do they. They dont care about poison food and tainted products from Mexico, China and other foreign countries. Our lives are being threatened every day by Mexican drug cartels, and other drug cartels who gain access through the southern border.
It really makes me sick to think that NOTHING will ever happen to Bush, who happens to be the root of most of the problems that face our country today.
I could go on and on and on, BUT WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO?
OUR NATION WILL BE LOST FOREVER IF OBAMA OR McCAIN GET A HOLD OF IT!RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends
