    The Mexicans worship the drug lords and this might turn the people against the church.

    What will the church do if the drug cartels start attacking the churches because of this?

    Also could be the bishop is trying to make up for a budget shortfall, as remittances from the US have started to dry up, so the worshippers are not tithing as much. $2.1 mill would go a long way in helping!
