He leaves for Tijuana early in the morning and comes back to his rented Eastlake home late at night, always taking a different route, even using different cars. He rarely ventures into the streets since criminals kidnapped and killed a close relative, and after surviving a kidnap attempt himself.
A lawyer, he speaks reluctantly, anonymously, and scared for his life.

08-30-2008, 01:58 PM #2But these days, kidnappings or the threat of them have pushed many small-business owners and professionals north of the border, even if they have to live here illegally.
The Mexican government is fractionated. The Mexican northern states are under control of the cartels, criminals and corrupt government officials and that is where border-crossings and smugglings occur, the Bush piloy truck program crosses, drugs and illegal aliens enter our country, NAFTA imports enter the U.S. there, U.S. hospitals treat Mexican victims of the gun battles at a risk to their own patients and without payment. Illegal loggers control parts of the south, a faction blows up oil pipelines, and the leftist party (including the mayor of Mexico City) doesn't not recognize the presidency of Calderon.
So how can the U.S., for the sake of our national security, conduct treaties, agreements, allow 'free trade', give billions in grants like the Merida Initiative, permit 50 Mexican consulates in the U.S. (what faction of government is in charge of them?), grant political asylum to thousands of its citizens, to a lawless land whose government is NOT in charge of their own country."Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
