Groups sue suburb over illegal immigrant ordinance

DALLAS (AP) -- Latino advocates and a civil liberties group have filed a federal lawsuit against a Dallas suburb whose officials are trying to drive out illegal immigrants.

The groups say the plan by the city of Farmers Branch to ask house and apartment renters to obtain a license is unconstitutional. Rental applicants would be run through a federal database to check their immigration status.

The lawsuit filed Friday by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union Immigrants' Rights Project is the latest facing Farmers Branch.

The suburb faces several other lawsuits in a nearly two-year battle over measures attempting to keep illegal immigrants from living there.

The usual suspects are predictably at it again. This is why the American people must never agree to another amnesty.

All the open border extremists want is amnesty after amnesty, and prove this once again by resisting the minimal, long overdue enforcement actions and meaures that are going on now.

GET ICE IN THERE TO CHECK I-9s of every employer!

Why haven't I-9s and green cards been verified since 1986 by the local, state, and federal governments? The government has not been doing anything with I-9s.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Unfortunately all these lawsuits ARE starting to take a toll on our small little city.

In the latest monthly newsletter, the city mentioned having a budget shortfall due to lower business tax revenue and higher energy costs. 20 city jobs had to be cut (8 were simply unfilled jobs). But on the list of recent major costs to the city was also $400,000 in legal costs, which was obviously almost all spent on the illegal alien lawsuit battles.

The opposition is doing a pretty good job of trying to bankrupt our little city. No one is giving up hope yet. I mean, the current mayor was elected overwhelmingly in April (or was it May) on an anti-illegal, pro-lawsuit fighting forum!

Sad to see this continue on and on, though.

What I'd like to know is when will these "community organizers" run out of money? They seem to have bottomless pockets by suing over and over again.

The federal government must stop giving them OUR money, since they are obviously not using it for "community outreach" but for suing towns that enforce laws.

Obviously, these law firms don't care about American citizens and their cities. They don't care about the residents jobs. Goes to show that its all about money not what is right.

According to their 2006 IRS Form 990 (open to public inspection), the MEXICAN AMERICAN LEGAL DEFENSE AND EDUCATIONAL FUND had 'net assets or fund balances at end of year' of $10,274,032 and $6,546,715 in gross receipts. Obviously, the open border/ethnocentric business is lucrative for this group.

Received this in my mail box today ...

I haven't bothered to read the MALDEF lawsuit that was filed late last
week regarding Ordinance 2952, but this quote from their press release
trumpeting their courage to sue the city of Farmers Branch and
challenge the will of the voting public made me smirk:

In a media release sent out today, MALDEF attorney Nina Perales says,
"Unfortunately, the City of Farmers Branch doesn't know when to quit."

I guess MALDEF knows what's best for Farmers Branch, not you, the
    actual citizens.

We all knew this was going to be a tough slog, trailblazing a path
through the courts while receiving pot-shots from self-serving
political organizations. I'm learning to just laugh off the smugness
of the people who can't win at the ballot box and prefer the role of
critic rather than the role of leader.

Speaking for myself, I'm planning on hanging tough with you, the
people. Whatever a MALDEF attorney thinks.
