The Mexican military has seized more than a ton of marijuana in Matamoros, officials said Thursday.

When patrolling Wednesday, military personnel found 119 packages of the narcotic at a property on San Juan Street in the Mexican city, according to a news release from Mexico's Secretary of Defense, known as SEDENA.

The seizure was part of the state's operation against drug trafficking and organized crime, known as "Operacion Noreste," SEDENA said in the release.

Officials said the marijuana seized has an estimated street value of more than 58 million pesos, or more than $4 million.
