Mexican National Sentenced in Meth Case

Des Moines, November 24, 2006 (AP) - An illegal alien from Mexico has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamines in the Waterloo-area between 2004 and 2005.

Andres Hernandez-Carrillo, of Valle, Guanajuato, Mexico, was sentenced on Tuesday for his role in a Waterloo-area methamphetamine ring.

In September 2005, Hernandez-Carrillo was pulled over in Cedar Rapids. Officers found $17,000 which Hernandez-Carrillo admitted was profits from a methamphetamine sale.

The next day, officers searched Hernandez-Carrillo's Waterloo home and found three ounces of methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia, a scale, ammunition, drug notes, automobile titles as well as more than $1,000 in cash.

Hernandez-Carrillo was sentenced in Cedar Rapids. Besides jail time, he also faces 100-dollars in fines and five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.
