DALLAS – Opponents of a Dallas suburb's ordinance aimed at barring illegal immigrants from renting housing asked a federal judge Monday for a temporary restraining order to block its enforcement.
A group of landlords and a former city council member suing Farmers Branch over the ordinance filed for the restraining order.
The ordinance would require prospective renters to obtain a city license. The city would then forward information from the license application to the federal government for verification of the person's immigration status.
Anyone who couldn't prove legal U.S. residency would be denied tenants licenses, and the city would penalize landlords who rent to people without a valid license.
Opponents say the city is trying to regulate immigration even though that is the domain of the federal government

I've had to go through background checks, credit reports and employment verification......what's the difference? I have been refused because I smoke (not illegal), had pets (not illegal), had kids (not illegal)...what's the difference? Places I wanted to rent in I was refused because I wasn't old enough yet......55 and older community....so your a few years short. LOL.....But that's OK. Even though you fullfill all the other requirements. Don't tell me there aren't limits placed on everyone in one way or another......being here illegally should be a no brainer.

The open border zealots are quick to say it's the "federal government's responsibility" whenever localities or states try to take common sense measures against illegal immigration. But when the feds belatedly try to do something (e.g., E-Verify, border fence), the OBL loons fight against this too.
This is one reason why we must NEVER agree to any further type of "comprehensive reform" amnesties. The OBL had proven time and again that they want no enforcement and wide open borders. They could care less whether they are intellectually (and morally) inconsistent and hypocritical.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
