VALLE HERMOSO - Residents of this town 25 miles south of the Free Trade Bridge at Los Indios tell of early-Sunday gunfire and grenade blasts. There were no reports of casualties.

The all-out war between drug cartel members and the Mexican military began at about 1 a.m. and did not subside until about 4:30 a.m. The military used at least one helicopter gunship in its attempt to subdue the cartel members.

A longstanding local eatery in the heart of the city, La Urraca, was completely destroyed, residents report. Main roads were blocked and people were afraid to leave their homes as of mid-morning Sunday.
