Pursued car crosses border, draws gunfire

SOUTH BAY: A driver led Chula Vista police officers on a high-speed chase early yesterday that ended when the car crossed the border and Mexican authorities shot at it.

An officer tried to stop the car on H Street near Broadway about 4:30 a.m. for a mechanical violation, Lt. Lon Turner said. The driver sped off and headed south on Interstate 5, reaching more than 100 mph, Turner said.

The car reached the San Ysidro Port of Entry and drove through without stopping, Turner said. Chula Vista police officers then reported hearing several rounds being fired, the lieutenant said.

Mexican authorities detained five people inside the car on suspicion of illegally entering the country, Turner said. He said he did not know if the car or anyone inside it was hit by the gunfire.

Not proof, but local TV says the car was registered to an American and was not reported stolen, as of yet.
This info could change.

Whatever. I'm glad the Mexican police could do something right....which it seems the LA police dept is incapable of under Mayor Villa's leadership.
