for those who don't like to click on the link:

A man whom the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Narcotics Task Force arrested in August 2009 as part of an investigation into a Mexican drug-trafficking ring was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison.
"I want to sent a message this is unacceptable conduct," Cowlitz Superior Court Judge Jill Johanson said upon sentencing Adalberto Jimenez Macias, 32, Longview. "These deliveries affected our community greatly."
On Aug. 30, a jury found him guilty of delivery of cocaine June 3, 5 and 6, 2009; delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of school grounds June 4, 2009; possession of meth with intent to deliver June 5, 2009, and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver June 30, 2009. The jury found him not guilty of one count of cocaine delivery.
Johanson rejected a request by defense attorney Emma Scanlan for a three-year prison sentence. Scanlan argued that the task force could have arrested Jimenez upon the first delivery instead of keeping things going.
"The task force controlled the amount of transactions," she said, presenting her client as a good man who held an honest job until an injury forced him to seek other means of support.
"I am very sorry," said Jimenez, whose family was in the courtroom. "I was trying to take care of my family."
Deputy prosecutor David Phelan pointed out that the task force's first contact with Jimenez came while detectives were targeting another suspect. Jimenez "showed up and provided drugs," he said. "This gave a peek at his position in the hierarchy. ... It's not simply like the task force picked him and did four or five buys. He brought himself to the attention of the task force."
Task force detectives said the ring smuggled multiple pounds of meth and cocaine into the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum county area each week. Several other suspects were arrested with Macias.
