A Mexican 'Separatist' School in L.A.?

Should American taxpayers be forced to pay for a self-segregating school that teaches children to hate the United States? That is apparently what is happening in Los Angeles.

Academia Semillos del Pueblo (ASDP), a charter school partially funded by the Los Angeles Unified School District, claims it only wants to help disadvantaged Latinos to earn a quality education. The school's true agenda, however, is far more radical and far more dangerous. Judicial Watch recently launched an investigation of the ASDP by filing a California Public Records Act request. Here is a small sampling of what we've uncovered so far:
The school's principal, Marcos Aguilar is a Mexican revolutionary radical who allegedly led a group of Latino students to seize a faculty lounge at UCLA in 1993 and set it on fire, causing $50,000-$100,000 in damages. In 2003, he told an interviewer with UCLA, “Ultimately, the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction.”
The ASDP's 8th Grade U.S. History class is called, “A People's history of Expansion and Conflict,” which includes, “A thematic survey of American politics, society, culture and political economy; Emphasis throughout on the nations the U.S. usurped, invaded and dominated; Connections between historical rise of capitalism and imperialism with modern political economy and global social relations.”
The school received a founding grant from the radical organization, National Council of La Raza (The Council of The Race). The NCLR, along with other members of the “reconquista” movement, reportedly intends to reclaim much of the Western United States, which they call, “Aztlan,” a fictional ancestral homeland occupied by the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America.
Doug McIntyre of KABC Radio in Los Angeles is courageously leading an investigation into Academia Semillos del Pueblos. On June 1, KABC reporter, Sandy Wells, was assaulted on school property as he attempted to interview Aguilar. After a car nearly ran Wells over, the driver hopped out, pushed him to the ground, took his audio recorder, and sped off. Apparently, KABC struck a nerve with its reporting.

There are many layers to this story, and we are just now in the beginning stages of our investigation. I'll have much more for you in the coming weeks.

Steve Forbes Flip Flops on Chinese Businessman Li Ka Shing

On September 5, 2006, Forbes Magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Steve Forbes, will personally bestow the first ever Malcom S. Forbes Lifetime Achievement Award on Chinese businessman Li Ka Shing. According to the Li Ka Shing Foundation website, “The Award, named for Forbes’ legendary chairman, honors a lifetime of achievement as a hero of entrepreneurial capitalism.” You read that correctly. The first-ever Forbes award given to a “hero of entrepreneurial capitalism,” will go to a Communist Chinese businessman.

What a difference seven years can make. Here's what Steve Forbes had to say about Li Ka Shing's company, Hutchinson Whampoa, in an interview with WorldNetDaily on December 21, 1999:
Clearly, President Clinton and Vice President Gore are not telling the American people the truth about their relationship with Communist China. We all know why. You can see it in how they react, such as the Hong Kong company Hutchison Whampoa that got the concession on both sides of the [Panama] canal. The same company was involved in California with the U.S. Naval base at Long Beach. Not to mention the way they blindly allowed our nuclear secrets to be stolen. I think there, the [Clinton/Gore] administration did not think that keeping secrets was all that important.

I do know [Hutchinson Whampoa has] relations with the Beijing government even though they vigorously deny it, and say they are independent. So why take the risk.
Forbes was right in 1999 and he's wrong now. Li-Ka Shing has close and suspicious ties to the Chinese Communist government and military. According to intelligence documents obtained by Judicial Watch, Li-Ka Shing, “is directly connected to Beijing and is willing to use its business influence to further the aims of the Chinese government.” He is also the founding board member of the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC), a front group for China's “People's Liberation Army.”

Can Forbes seriously say that there was no one else more deserving of this award?

Government Continues to Allow Terrorist Front Groups to Operate in U.S.

Last week authorities in London were able to thwart a potentially devastating terrorist attack against the United States. Islamic terrorists, once again, planned to blow up as many as 10 airplanes on transatlantic flights, causing death and destruction on a massive scale.

President Bush said at the time of the near-catastrophe, that it represented, “A stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation.” True enough.

But the Bush administration seems to be fighting a schizophrenic war against terrorism. On the one hand, the president has shown resolve in the war on terrorism abroad. But here at home, there remain numerous loopholes for terrorists to crawl through.

For example, shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Judicial Watch called upon the Bush administration to investigate and, if necessary, shut down fourteen so-called “mainstream” Islamic organizations in the United States known to be funneling money to terrorists. Some important law enforcement steps were taken against some of these so-called charities, but some of these groups are still in operation today.

To take just one example, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), presents itself as an advocate for Muslim civil rights. However, according to Steven Pomerantz, the FBI's former chief of counterterrorism, “CAIR, its leaders and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups.” CAIR remains the most influential Islamic special interest group in the United States and is still very active. Earlier this week, the organization sent out a fundraising appeal seeking money to continue their campaign to "empower American Muslims." (Click here for an excellent summary of CAIR produced by the Capital Research Center.)

Of course, the government's failure to protect the American people from the threat of terrorism certainly didn't begin with the Bush administration. It was one year ago yesterday that Judicial Watch uncovered documents proving former President Clinton knew bin Laden was a serious threat back in 1996, but failed to take any meaningful actions to stop him. And here we are, ten years later.
