Thread: Mexican TV network adding English classes to its lineup

What a sad day it is when we must await a foreign corporation to tell people not from here that they need to freaking learn english.

MEXICO CITY – As the debate over immigration reform festers in Congress, one message is clear: Americans think people from other countries who live in the United States ought to speak English.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico's campus in Mexico City is working with Azteca America to produce English classes.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said it to a gathering of Latino journalists. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said it when he proposed a bill calling for the designation of English as the national language. Even President Bush said it as he lobbied for his immigration overhaul package.

“I think people who want to be a citizen of this country should learn English,â€

I'm gonna step out on a limb and say learning English would be a HUGE step in the right direction.

Down with having to press one for English!!!!!

I WILL GO OUT ON THAT LIMB WITH YOU SICNTIRED. ONE OF THE PROBLEMS IS THAT THERE ARE NOW SO MANY LANGUAGES THAT NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER. THE WHOLE IDEA OF LANGUAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE IS TO COMMUNICATE. IF THEY DONT WANT TO LEARN OUR LANGUAGE THEN THEY DONT BELONG HERE.

HAVING SAID THAT.....THEY STILL HAVE TO COME HERE LEGALLY. AMNESTY IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I DONT CARE HOW WELL THEY SPEAK ENGLISH. IF THEY DONT WANT TO FOLLOW THE LAWS FOR ADMISSION TO USA....THEY DONT BELONG HERE. WE HAVE TO HAVE CONTROL OVER WHO AND HOW MANY IMMIGRATE TO OUR COUNTRY. SOME WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER....ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT. JUST BECAUSE OUR IMMIGRTION QUOTA IS FULL IS NO EXCUSE TO ENTER ILLEGALLY. BEING HERE ILLEGALLY WILL NEVER BE ACCEPTABLE.

A step in the right direction, what took so long?

Another step in the right direction is to deport all illegals AND their children and fill their spots with LEGAL immigrants who contribute to our society, not suck it dry!
