Mexicans call for reinstatement of death penalty in Mexico
Mexico not focused on Texas execution
August 7, 2008
MEXICO CITY – Mexicans struggling with increasingly gruesome crimes at home devoted the least attention in recent memory to the execution of one of their citizens in Texas on Tuesday night.
With Mexico riveted on the kidnapping and killing of a 14-year-old boy in Mexico City, the country expressed far less outrage than usual at the death by lethal injection Tuesday of José MedellÃ*n, a Mexican convicted in the 1993 rape and murder of two Texas girls.
Some Mexicans yesterday even called for reinstating the death penalty at home to try to lower Mexico's burgeoning crime rate.
