Man held after run-in with Lacey police car

LACEY – An Olympia man was being held Tuesday at the Thurston County Jail, accused of backing his sport utility vehicle into a Lacey patrol car during a traffic stop at Martin Way and College Street, court papers state.

Clemente Allende-Ceballos, 35, was being held on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was being held without bail because of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, a jail official said Tuesday.

    According to court papers:

A resident flagged a Lacey police officer who was on a routine patrol Saturday night, stating that a potentially drunken driver was driving all over the road. When the officer attempted to pull over the suspect's SUV as it was stopped at a red light, the driver "suddenly accelerated hopping over the concrete median and swerved into the oncoming lanes," court papers state.

As the officer pursued the SUV, it "continued to accelerate and ran onto the sidewalk at the intersection, then pulled across the northbound lanes and stopped in the middle of the roadway."

After the SUV stopped, Lacey officers ordered the occupants to exit, but they would not comply. The SUV suddenly backed up, striking a Lacey patrol car. A Lacey officer went to draw his weapon, court papers state, but Lt. Phil Comstock said Tuesday that no shots were fired.

Comstock said the patrol car is back in service, but it sustained a damaged push bar.

The two passengers refused to exit, "despite English and Spanish" directions to do so, court papers state.

A Lacey officer broke the passenger door window of the suspect vehicle and cut his hand.

Allende-Ceballos was arrested. He later registered blood-alcohol levels of 0.157 and 0.16, which is higher than the legal limit of 0.08 for drunken driving. The SUV he was driving fit the description of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident in Olympia earlier Saturday.

Allende-Ceballos's passenger also was interviewed by police. He was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Olympia. The passenger said that Allende-Ceballos "does not have a driver's license and does not know how to drive." The passenger said that "he did not want to drive himself because he was drunk."
