Appeals begin as AZ law underway
Ex-Mexican diplomat: take SB 1070 to int’l court


MEXICO CITY – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer submitted Thursday an appeal to a federal judge to lift a temporary suspension of key parts of a controversial immigration law.

Brewer’s office said it asked the Federal Court of Appeals of the Ninth District in San Francisco to initiate an expedited appeals process and to begin hearings for SB 1070 by mid-September. Just hours before it was to take effect, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton on Wednesday suspended the law’s most severe measures.

“Illegal immigration is an ongoing crisis that the state of Arizona did not create and that the federal government has refused to fix it,â€
