Mexico Joins Legal Battle Against Arizona Immigration Law
Mexico Joins Legal Battle Against Arizona Immigration Law
June 28, 2010
by Personal Liberty News Desk
Mexico filed a brief with the United States District Court last Tuesday challenging Arizona’s controversial new immigration law. Officials with the Mexican government argue that the statute is unconstitutional and endangers the rights of thousands of citizens who legally visit the U.S each day.
The new law creates "an imminent threat of state-sanctioned bias or discrimination, resulting not only in individual injury but also in broader social and economic harms to its citizens," read the brief.
"Mexican citizens will be afraid to visit Arizona for work or pleasure out of concern that they will be subject to unlawful police scrutiny and detention," it added.
The motion also notes that the new law would adversely affect the relationship between the U.S. and Mexican governments, and could hamper the two nation’s collaborative effort to fight drug trafficking and border violence, according to Fox News.
By submitting the brief, Mexico formally joins one of five separate lawsuits that challenge the law, which is scheduled to go into effect on July 29.
In response to Mexico’s legal action, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer reiterated her belief that the "immigration enforcement laws are both reasonable and constitutional."

Unbelievable that a foreign country is attempting to meddle on a sovereign state! This is beyond the pale and the American people will NOT tolerate it! Mexico is doing itself NO favors with this kind of crap. Keep it up and we perhaps should ban ALL immigration from Mexico!!
...I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid...

I'm sure the AZ police can spot the difference between a well heeled Mexican tourist and someone who just crawled across the border fence. Duh!!
As for the low class Mexicans visiting their dirtbag kin....they should give them a special pass to put in their car, so the police know who they are. With a one week limit on their visa. This is really a no-brainer. I'm sure the Canadians already have this one figured out."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

I don't think it could be so easy to determine tourist from illegal because there are so many U.S. citizen funded charities that enable the illegal to dress better than most working class citizens and to have things like $500 baby carriages and decent running vehicles. They do not present the caricature. Sadly some old-time Mexican descent farmers do dress down as do citizen old-time farmers and they could easily be targeted while their rough look does not mean that they are not citizen or not legal. So one has to look for other clues that are less obvious.

Additionally, it's not unconstitutional and Mexicans don't have rights under the US Constitution. This is not endangering their "human rights".
I have a finger up for Mexico.
