Republicans considering two plans to let DREAMers remain in U.S.
Report: Republicans considering two plans to let DREAMers remain in U.S.
POSTED AT 3:01 PM ON JANUARY 16, 2017 BY ALLAHPUNDIT
Matt Lewis hears rumblings. “DACA” is, of course, shorthand for the executive amnesty for young illegals ordered by Obama in 2012 that allows them to remain in the U.S. subject to certain basic conditions:
According to my sources, there are two potential options being discussed:
1) keep DACA in place for six months to a year and have Congress pass a fix (perhaps as part of a larger border security bill), or
2) repeal DACA but allow continuation for work permits (so DREAMers can earn a living while Congress hammers out the details), and assign them a low deportation priority until Congress can pass a fix. Finally, Congress—not a presidential executive order—must codify this carve-out into law…
[T]his could be [Trump’s] “Only Nixon can go to China” moment. In other words, because Trump plans to build a wall (why not time this move to coincide with the funding of that wall?), deport criminal aliens, punish sanctuary cities, etc., he may have the political leverage to keep some 740,000 young people from being deported (those who came here as minors before June 2007 and have avoided a felony or serious misdemeanor conviction). This could end up being a bipartisan compromise that allows Trump to give his base the things they really care about, while simultaneously making a common-sense compromise that could defang the left.
I haven’t seen that reported elsewhere but it makes perfect sense. Trump has already signaled that he’s open to an accommodation on DREAMers, telling Time magazine in his “Man of the Year” interview when asked about them that “We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud.”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poll showing Republicans opposed to the idea of legalizing DREAMers; in fact, some polls show Republicans, including Trump voters, open to letting all illegals stay if they meet statutory requirements.
He has political cover to make this deal. The only trick is to get something meaningful for his base in return, so that he’s not accused of selling them out in exchange for nothing.
“An obvious way to keep his promise to rescind Obama’s executive amnesties while solving the uncertainty over DREAMers,” I wrote in this post, “would be to pursue a legislative compromise in which legal status for them is traded for more security at the border.” Ten days ago news broke that Trump would ask Congress to fund construction of the new border wall, with Mexico to reimburse us for it some way, somehow in the future. If he’s worried about Democrats filibustering that funding, it’s a no-brainer to offer them legalization for DREAMers in return for wall funding. In one fell swoop, he’d have secured the key plank in his immigration plan for his base while proving to his critics in the press that he doesn’t intend to deport all illegals. Like Lewis says, the left would like to be able to use immigration as a wedge issue with Latino voters. If amnesty for DREAMers is on the table, that gets harder for them.
Given how it solves multiple problems for the new White House, it’d be more surprising if a DREAMers-for-the-wall deal isn’t offered this year than if it is.
The question is which of the two plans described by Lewis is preferred by Trump. I assume he favors the second one, in which DACA is rescinded by executive order but work permits are continued, for the simple reason that it would allow him to say (sort of) truthfully that he vowed to end Obama’s executive amnesties and he kept his promise.
(Ironically, he made that vow in the same interview in which he first called for mass deportation. “Chuck, we either have a country, or we don’t have a country.”) Remember, this is a guy so invested in his man-of-action image that he’s demanding simultaneous repeal and replace for ObamaCare even though the GOP doesn’t have a replacement plan yet. If he won’t wait for them on that, he’s surely not going to keep DACA in place for a year while Ryan and McConnell sound out Schumer on a deal.
Exit question via the LA Times: While we’re cutting a big check to fund the wall, can we cut a smaller check to fund filling in the tunnels underneath that wall? Not surprisingly, Mexico’s not doing a very good job of it on their end.

Well I for one am a Republican who opposes any action for illegal Dreamers except immediate deportation, families intact, no child left behind. So I can't speak for others but any Republican who supports any type of legal status for any illegal aliens will be on my Crap List.
All you speculators need to realize that Trump isn't in this for political reasons. He's in this to solve the problem once and for all. Any amnesty or legal status or permission to work for illegal aliens of any circumstance perpetuates the problem rather than ends it. The number one lure to the US is not jobs as we've thought, it's drugs, family and a base to connect with. Then comes the jobs, welfare, benefits and so forth.
So Trump just needs to stand his ground and never give amnesty, legalization or work permits to any person who isn't a citizen or legal immigrant, not legalized illegal aliens. Cut their benefits off, hunt them down and deport them all.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Republicans should work on reforming the chain migration laws. These smaller proposals don't seem too draconian. However, the larger context is where the problem is, IMO.

Exactly Captainron. When you give "children" legal status, what about their parents? What about their own kids, siblings, grandparents, sibling families, cousins, other relatives, etc., etc., etc. DACA is a con game amnesty that grows the illegal alien population every which way.
Republicans like Paul Ryan and others who support DACA and any other version of giving illegal aliens legal status of any kind to do anything in this country are WEAK and STUPID people.
NO DEAL!!!Last edited by Judy; 01-16-2017 at 06:00 PM.

Stop kicking the can down the road. Terminate the EO of DACA and DAPA and send them on their way to get on with their lives in THEIR countries. They all have relatives to go back to. These countries need to take care of their own citizens once and for all and set up their own social services programs. They should be having jobs and a good life on their soil.
We have been lied to for decades and now this has reached monumental proportions to deal with. End it all, cut all taxpayer funded freebies, end the anchor baby scam and turn them right back around at the border.ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVE "BROKEN" OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM
DO NOT REWARD THEM - DEPORT THEM ALL

No on 1) and No on 2). Period.
The amnesty Republicans are determined to do this and will effectively continue their demise if successful. Illegal Aliens will not vote Republican as Speaker Paul
Ryan said. Unfortunately, the majority of hispanics vote democrat. Unfortunately, the citizen children of illegal aliens are majority democrats. Lawbreakers will continue to favor them and reward them. They will be rewarded and always feel entitled. Americans will continue to be insulted and forced to bow to illegal aliens turned legal. Those cities that are majority Hispanic due to the presence of illegal aliens will remain that way. Americans who speak English will be overlooked in jobs that require Spanish, too.
If DACA and DAPA continue or legislation is introduced to do another 1986 amnesty scam on the American people, it would cover 5 million plus illegal aliens and the fraud would be HUGE. It would be like the rolling amnesties from '86.Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Exactly, my dear fellow ALIPACers!! These phony Republicans are WEAK and STUPID people, incapable of balancing budgets, incapable of securing our nation, incapable of protecting our jobs, and incapable of serving the American People. Most Republicans are not phonies like McCain, Graham, Rubio, Flake and Ryan. Once again, it will be the majority of House Real Republicans who shut these RINOS down before they conspire on a bill that our dear Donald Trump would have to veto.
Do your jobs, Real Republicans. YOU SHUT THIS DOWN NOW. YOU SHUT THESE PHONIES UP. YOU TELL THAT WEAK STUPID PAUL RYAN if he EVER goes on national television again and in any way, shape or form sucks up to an illegal alien and refuses to answer a US citizen, then the good people of this country will find a way to run his traitor's ass out of DC on the rails.
We're exhausted with fighting our own party on trade and immigration, we really are fed up to our gills. We want this gawd damn stinking SWAMP DRAINED and we want it drained now.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

We have effectively pushed these amnesty efforts back as far as legislation but the DACA and DAPA Executive Orders give amnesty Republicans the claim of compassion for those illegally here but we all know behind the proclaimed compassion lies donors, special interests, global mindsets, etc. They don't mind to hurt American citizens and their families while rewarding those illegally here.
We cannot give amnesty and end this mess. Too much fraud, too many loopholes. They may try to say it is only for legalization but no citizenship. We know that will be changed somewhere by Democrats with the help of Republicans if possible.Last edited by GeorgiaPeach; 01-16-2017 at 07:26 PM.

Again, and I repeat, there is only one solution to illegal immigration and that is deportation of every illegal alien in the country and removal of their minor children with them, no child left behind.

Donald Trump never said one word about supporting a continuation of DACA or Dream Act Amnesty during his campaign. And if something like this becomes the agenda all Hell is Going to Break lose.
I wonder if the author of this article and those behind these plans understand the fierce, unprecedented, historic backlash that will come down on all their heads if they continue to pursue plans like these that give aid and encouragement to illegal aliens?
