Mexico offers health insurance for migrants' kin

Mexico offers health insurance for migrants' kin

    The Associated Press
    9:42 p.m. September 4, 2009

MEXICO CITY β€” Mexico's Health Department says it will launch a pilot program to encourage migrants working in the United States to sign up their families in Mexico for the Mexican government's low-income health insurance program.

The department says the program will start in the state of Colorado, and will eventually be extended to other states, mainly through Mexican consulate.

The "Seguro Popular" insurance program offers low-cost coverage to people not covered by other plans.

The department said in a statement Friday the program was part of a plan to achieve full health coverage for Mexicans by 2012.

Nearly 12 million Mexicans live in the United States.

How about they all go home and let Mexico take care of their medical needs.

Why is Mexico asking Mexicans in the USA to contact relatives in Mexico

I guess this means the poor IA's coming here for healthcare & treatment can now return home since Mejico will take care of them. This blows a big hole in one of their major arguements for staying here.

Is this is asking the IAs here to pay for the healthcare insurance of their relatives there?

    Mexico's health care lures Americans

    By Chris Hawley, USA TODAY

MEXICO CITY β€” It sounds almost too good to be true: a health care plan with no limits, no deductibles, free medicines, tests, X-rays, eyeglasses, even dental work β€” all for a flat fee of $250 or less a year.
To get it, you just have to move to Mexico . . .
