Mexico Police Say Drug Gang Leader in Custody

MEXICO CITY - Federal police in Mexico say they have captured a drug trafficker who took over as leader of a gang led by Edgar Valdez Villarreal, also known as La Barbie.

Mexican officials say Carlos Montemayor was arrested with the help of the DEA and with information obtained after the August arrest of La Barbie.

Officials say Montemayor took over the gang led by Valdez that was fighting for control of the Beltran-Leyva Cartel.

Montemayor also confessed that the gang killed 20 Mexican tourists kidnapped in September in Acapulco after mistaking them for members of the rival La Familia Cartel.
