Latinos push immigration legislation
Aid given to Latino students

Latino students from around the state are petitioning the U.S. Senate for support for an act that could grant illegal immigrants legal status for six years after high school graduation.
At the end of the Latino Intercollegiate Consortium at the Tate Center Sunday, students from the University and other state colleges decided to collect signatures on their campuses for a petition to their senators to support the Development, Relief, Education and Alien Minors (DREAM) Act.
The act would grant illegal immigrant minors the chance to apply for six years of legal immigrant status upon high school graduation.
The petition was just one of the many plans outlined at the Hispanic Student Association sponsored event.
