There was never a spike in violence or a sharp increase in drug addiction in Mexico, guns are not, mainly, coming from the US —and traffic is not likely to stop—, and the infiltration of crime organizations in the Mexican government is far from being the worse in its history.

In fact, the so-called war-on–drugs declared by President Felipe Calderon was brought upon the country as a way to legitimize his power after a fiercely contested presidential election. Lacking clear goals or an exit strategy the war has completely failed.

These are the controversial arguments put forth in a book called “Narco: The failed war,â€

The War of Drugs is doomed to fail, no matter where it's waged.

The importation of illicit drugs is just a spectacular example of supply and demand at work. There are many good reasons for wanting a moratorium on immigration and for deporting illegals. But the Mexican failure in the War on Drugs in not one of them.

If we want to see the true nature of the drug problem, we could begin by looking in our medicine cabinets.

Make no mistake, this is not a war on drugs, it is a war over control and power! The selling of drugs only supplies the money they need along with every other kind of corruption you can name to gain more money.

A lot of Mexican drug gang members have been killed, mostly by other drug gangs, and some by police and the military.

Many drug gang leaders are in prison in Mexico and the U.S.

So the war on drugs hasn't been a total failure.
