Thread: MI - Dairy worker in country illegally threatened man with knife, police say

HURON COUNTY, MI -- A 31-year-old man from Mexico is in custody of federal border authorities after police say he threatened a co-worker with a knife during a drunken argument and was found to be in the country illegally.

The incident unfolded around 5 a.m. Sunday, May 7, at a residence on a dairy farm in Winsor Township, said Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson.

The alleged victim, a 26-year-old Sebewaing man, told police he had finished milking cows and returned to the residence he shares with three other workers when one of them, the Mexican man, started an argument, Hanson said.

After the argument turned physical, police say the Mexican man grabbed a knife, the sheriff stated.

The Sebewaing man and another worker were able to wrestle the knife from the Mexican man, who then barricaded himself in his room, Hanson said.

Deputies were able to talk the man out of the room and take him into custody without incident, Hanson said.

Hanson said the man had been drinking.

Deputies learned through the U.S. Border Patrol the man was in the country illegally, Hanson said. He was then turned over to them.

Hanson said the man was a worker at the dairy farm.

U.S. Border Patrol were not immediately available to comment.

Hanson said no one was injured during the incident.
