CORPUS CHRISTI — One person was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent stationed in Corpus Christi during a traffic stop about noon Thursday, authorities said.

Officials didn't disclose the gender of the person shot. The reason for the traffic stop and details as to whether the deceased was armed were not known, Border Patrol Agent Daniel Milian said.

No Border Patrol agents were injured, he said.

"We don't have reports if it was a chase or what, " Milian said. "We just have very preliminary information and aside from that we're waiting for them to piece everything together and continue on with the investigation, of course."

Milian did not know exactly where in San Patricio County the shooting took place, but roads were blocked in the Bluntzer area near Farm-to-Market roads 666 and 624.

Officials from assisting agencies including the Department of Public Safety and the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they responded to a shooting near Orange Grove and Mathis. Rescue workers from HALO-Flight were called for a shooting victim by an agency in Mathis, but they were called off before they ever took flight, a supervisor said. Milian said he believes that call was related to the shooting.
