DES MOINES, Iowa— Immigration officials are involved in an investigation into a rollover accident in western Iowa where some people fled the scene.
The Iowa State Patrol says eight people fled after the accident on Interstate 80 in Cass County Sunday morning. Two others were seriously injured and remained with the van. They were taken to a hospital in Des Moines.
Six people were found during a search. They were taken to a hospital in Atlantic for treatment of injuries. Two others managed to get a taxi and went to Council Bluffs. They have not been found.
Authorities say the six people interviewed by federal officials are in the country illegally and were headed to New Jersey to find work. They were turned over to Immigration officials.
