C.B.P. Makes Interpol Arrest at the Sweetgrass Port of Entry

Sweetgrass, Mont. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Sweetgrass Port of Entry arrested a Canadian man for an Interpol warrant out of India on October 22, 2008.

The Sweetgrass CBP Officers were conducting a routine inspection of a commercial driver, Raghbir Singh Virk, and his load of beef when they discovered a warrant from India through Interpol for fraud and fraudulent activity.

Interpol confirmed the warrant was valid and CBP Officers immediately took Virk into custody and transported him to the Cascade County Detention Center in Great Falls where he will be held until the provisional arrest warrant can be obtained from India.

Sweetgrass Port Director Larry Overcast said “Our increased vigilance and thoroughness is resulting in the apprehension of more individuals attempting to enter into the United States or return back through our ports of entry. I am proud of the work our officers here in Montana perform every day on behalf of the American people."

The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) is an organization whose goal is to facilitate international police cooperation. Interpol was established in 1923 and consists of 186 member nations.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of U.S. borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
