    Migrant Students Make Emotional Plea

    SOUTH DADE | IMMIGRATION
    Migrants' children make emotional plea.
More than two dozen U.S.-born children of undocumented parents gathered at a South Miami-Dade house to plan a demonstration in front of the White House next month to demand the end of deportations.

It started out as a news conference by children to announce their participation in a planned demonstration in front of the White House next month to demand a halt to deportations of undocumented immigrants.

But the press briefing quickly turned into a highly emotional event with several children breaking down in tears as they described how their parents had been detained, deported or continued to live in fear of imminent immigration detention.

The more than two dozen children who gathered Thursday at the home of immigration activist Nora Sándigo in South Miami-Dade plan to travel to Washington to take part in a July 28 ``kids demonstration'' in front of the White House to demand that President Barack Obama sign an executive order suspending deportations of undocumented immigrants.

``I want to tell President Obama to leave my family alone, to not touch my family, to not detain my father or mother,'' said a 7-year-old girl who identified herself only as Ashley. Then as a reporter asked what she would tell Obama, Ashley began crying inconsolably in front of the television cameras.

One child who put on a brave face was Nicole Calvo, whose Costa Rican father was detained by immigration authorities at one point.

``We are here at the children's news conference to ask President Obama to sign an executive order to halt all the immigration raids and deportations,'' said Nicole, 13. She said she feared her Colombian mother, who cleans houses for a living, could be deported.

The children's parents come from different Latin American countries. Some have been deported; others have been detained by immigration officials. A few were in hiding, fleeing deportation orders, and still others had yet to be discovered.

The children's news conference came as rumors swirl in Washington that Obama may be preparing an executive order suspending deportations of undocumented immigrants who have no criminal records.

Eight Republican senators sent a letter to Obama on Monday asking for confirmation that the White House is planning to defer deportations or grant parole to millions of undocumented immigrants.

Some undocumented parents plan to accompany the children to the march in Washington

Hate to tell you this kids... Mommy and Daddy knew exactly what they were doing when they had you! You were their anchors to the US, nothing more nothing less. Now they are getting caught, guess what you have NO ONE to blame other than Mommy and Daddy! It's not our fault, and it's NOT our problem...

Now just suck it up and go on HOME with Mommy and Daddy. We have had enough of the whining and sob stories already!

    Really

Really sick that people would use their kids and exploit them as an anchor and to steal from a completely different country's people. The parents should be so ashamed of themselves. How could they show their faces?

This is just yet another way in which Mexican parents use their children as props, not much different than using them as props when they panhandle.
Really...I certainly don't know any 7 year olds who would form such opinions or who would even care.

These kids refuse to see that they have a tremendous advantage in life. With the U.S. education they received, courtesy of taxpayers, they can return home to their parents' home country and find a really good job.

Has anyone read our Child Endangerment Laws? Their parents and these Activist groups are violating another American Law. Where is CPS enforcing these laws.

Child endangerment is a criminal offense that involves the subjection of minor children to inappropriate or dangerous situations

The purpose of child endangerment laws is to keep children from witnessing adult or illegal activity, and to protect them from situations in which they might get hurt.

Yes, I know a few young immigrants who have done exactly that.

sometimes you just hate to see that kids are involved and

This is where their argument is so bogus. How is deporting anchors with their parents "hurting them"? They will live in the same place and same way they would have lived if their parents had not broken numerous US laws. How is that "hurting them"? It's like saying we are hurting 5 billion poor people around the world because we don't give them US citizenship and benefits. It's like me saying a bank is hurting me because they won't have over $100,000 in cash to me.
