Migrant Traffickers Killed Crying Two-Year-Old by Throwing Him into the Atlantic Ocean in Front of His Mother, Spanish Official Says

A Lanzarote emergency official has said human traffickers threw a two-year-old boy into the Atlantic, killing him, because they were annoyed with him crying during a migrant crossing to the Canary Islands.

Enrique Espinosa, who runs Lanzarote’s Emergency Services Consortium, described the murder on the Cronicas Radio program “A Buena Hora” after being asked about a gang rape reported on another boat that reached the island, according to a report from The Sun.

“There are even more terrible things than that,” Espinosa said. “On a boat, they threw a two-year-old child who was crying with his mother into the water. They are terrible things. When they start telling you things, you see that it borders on a lack of humanity. An end must be put to all this trafficking by mafias.”

Espinosa said the men who control these migrant trips threw him overboard because the crying annoyed them.

Spanish National Police have not announced an arrest tied to the toddler’s death.

The radio interview originally focused on a case from September 16, when a small boat bound for Lanzarote was intercepted.

Spanish coast guard officials said the crossing put 65 survivors on land, and three bodies were recovered.

After the boat reached Arrecife, a woman told rescuers she had been sexually assaulted, likely in international waters, by several men.

The woman was reportedly in serious condition.

A witness from the same boat reported seeing the assault.

National Police in Arrecife arrested three men, aged 21, 25, and 30. Their names and nationalities were not released.

A police spokesman said, “Given her serious state of health, the necessary resources were activated to provide her with initial assistance, and she subsequently received specialized care as a victim at police premises.”

The Sun reports, “More than 450 migrants have been rescued off the coast of Lanzarote in the past few days, according to officials.”

“Over a dozen people are believed to have died during the crossing.”
