Migrant tried to steal $3,100 worth of clothing from Macy’s, officials say

CHICAGO — A newly-arrived migrant is charged with trying to shoplift $3,114 worth of Ralph Lauren clothing from a Loop department store.

Three people who joined him, including one who tried to steal another $1,650 worth of Ralph Lauren items, got away.

Chicago police said two men and two women walked into Macy’s, 111 North State, and headed to the second floor around 7:10 p.m. on June 12.

The two men pulled garbage bags from their waists and stuffed them with merchandise as they perused the aisles, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Victor Aberdeen. A store security officer spotted the theft in progress on video, and officers confronted the group as they tried to exit onto Randolph Street, Aberdeen said.


One of the men dropped his garbage bag of clothing and ran away with the two women.

But Newman Castillo Delgado, 20, was detained by Macy’s guards as he tried to walk out with his bag, Aberdeen said.

Delgado’s bag contained two men’s tennis jackets, 15 Ralph Lauren classic fit Polo shirts, and other Lauren products worth more than $3,100, according to a CPD report. The bag that the other man dropped contained 15 Ralph Lauren classic-fit mesh Polo shirts worth over $1.650.

Prosecutors charged Delgado with felony retail theft. Judge Ankur Srivastava released him on his own recognizance.

The city has struggled to keep up as several thousand migrants have arrived in Chicago over the past ten months, mostly bused or flown here by authorities in southern border states.

With no place to stay and nothing more than what they carried with them, migrants were often forced to live in the lobbies of Chicago police stations. There, they “showered” in lobby bathrooms, slept on hard floors, and ate food donated by charities and, often, the officers working in the stations.

Earlier this year, CWBChicago reported that 12% of all shoplifting arrests in Chicago last year occurred at Macy’s on State Street. With 179 arrests last year, the store had nearly three times as many shoplifting arrests as the second-place store, Jewel-Osco at 1763 West Howard.

They are not "migrants", they are criminal trespassing, thieving, mongrels.

Deport them on the spot.
