Durham &mdashLast month, North Carolina’s community college system changed its policy to require its 58 campuses to enroll illegal immigrants if they met the schools' standards for other students.

This week, Gov. Mike Easley said North Carolina can't turn its back on anyone who wants an education, including illegal immigrants. But some are asking what the point is since it’s against the law to hire a well-educated illegal worker.

Attorney General Roy Cooper spoke about the issue and his involvement in it Thursday.

“The community colleges asked us, ‘What is the status of the law right now regarding illegal immigrants (being) given admission to North Carolina community colleges?’â€

They might have a hard time doing the in-state tuition thing. People will really come unglued. I reallay don't think it is fair for in-state tutition. Our kids are not educatied well enougth because if illegals and they don't need to be taking seats from legal immigrants or AMERICANS.

Kudos to Mr. Standish! Why SHOULD we be responsible for the education of illegal aliens? Mr. Standish is absolutely correct when he said it's against the law to hire illegals- educated or not.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt for our AG Roy Cooper to hear from us daily until he decides to interpret the law correctly instead of fine tooth combing it for loopholes favorable to illegal aliens.

ICE needs to raid a college or two and arrest the administration and staff and charge them with aiding, abetting, and harboring illegals and see how fast the "study" is completed.

I'm just as unglued about them being admitted to taxpayer-supported colleges as I am the prospect of in-state tuition. Neither is right as far as I'm concerned.

Mr. Standish seems to have it right. Too bad our AG has to do "research".
