SAN YSIDRO (KUSI)- Reliable sources tell KUSI an organized plan for migrants to rush the San Ysidro border like they did last Sunday is in the works for tomorrow.
The timing is noteworthy because Mexico’s new president, who has been working with the Trump administration., will be inaugurated tomorrow. Organizers of the planned rush of the border want to embarrass him with the world watching.

There is a group of about 600 provocateurs, some of whom are paid by the group BAMN, which stands for By Any Means Necessary. JD2
By Any Means Necessary
By Any Means Necessary Basic facts Location: Detroit, Mich. Website: Official website
By Any Means Necessary, or BAMN, is a civil rights group active in Michigan and California.
The full name of the group is the "Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration and Immigration Rights and Fight for Equality By Any Means Necessary."
The group's name is derived from a slogan popularized in a 1964 speech by Malcolm X in which he said, "That's our motto. We want freedom by any means necessary. We want justice by any means necessary. We want equality by any means necessary."[1]
Mission
The website for BAMN lists 22 guiding principles for group. The first organizing principle, which states the group's general purpose, is:[2]
“ BAMN is a mass, democratic, integrated, national organization dedicated to building a new mass civil rights movement to defend affirmative action, integration, and the other gains of the civil rights movement of the 1960s and to advance the struggle for equality in American society by any means necessary.[3] ”
Work
BAMN was founded by a number of people—including Shanta Driver and Luke Massie—in Berkeley, Calif., in 1995. According to the Detroit Metro Times, the group was initially formed " in response to Ward Connerly’s ultimately successful drive to ban race-based admissions practices at the nine schools in the University of California school system." The paper also noted, "In 1997, when Connerly announced he was setting his sights on Michigan, Driver and Massie moved the group’s headquarters to Detroit where members also had previous ties."[4]
BAMN is primarily a student and youth-based organization of leaders in schools and communities.[5] According to its website, the organization works on four major campaigns: affirmative action, public education, LGBT rights and immigrant rights.
Of the campaigns, BAMN's website says, "We are building a united mass, integrated civil rights movement that will unite black and brown, gay and straight, to win full freedom and equality for all. We are fighting to defend public education, to defeat budget cuts for education, to defend public jobs and public services, to win college financial aid and citizenship for undocumented immigrant students, and to make every school, college, city, municipality and state a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants."[5]
The techniques used by the organization have come under scrutiny. In 2008, when Connerly attempted to ban affirmative action in Arizona, Tucson Citizen criticized BAMN members for their "bullying behavior": "BAMN members are harassing petition circulators on Phoenix streets until circulators are driven away or give up the petitions. The group is filming people who sign the petition while BAMN members loudly and repeatedly inform them they are signing a racist measure that will resegregate Arizona and keep black and Latino students out of state universities."[6] Roger Clegg of National Review accused the group of "abusing and defaming everyone who disagrees with them."[7] The American Civil Liberties Union has reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has investigated BAMN for potential involvement in unspecified "terrorist activities." According to the FBI, the group's protests were discussed in a meeting about terrorist activities.[8]
Michigan Civil Rights Initiative
See also: Michigan Civil Rights Amendment, Proposal 2 (2006)BAMN activism has included legal challenges against the 2006 Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, rallies, protests and confrontational activism. BAMN was active in Michigan in claiming that some of the signatures collected in a 2005 petition drive to place the Michigan Civil Rights Amendment, Proposal 2 (2006) on the ballot were collected fraudulently when signature gatherers erroneously claimed that the measure promoted affirmative action.
Although the MCRI passed in November 2006, BAMN continued to pursue legal challenges.[9][10]
Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action is the case involving BAMN decided by the United States Supreme Court on April 22, 2014.
In November 2006, Michigan voters passed a proposition, Proposal 2, to amend the state constitution. The amendment prohibited "all sex- and race-based preferences in public education, public employment, and public contracting." In response, a group of citizens and interest groups formed the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration and Immigration Rights and Fight for Equality by Any Means Necessary, collectively called the coalition. The coalition sued the governor, the regents and boards of trustees of three state universities, arguing that the proposition violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution.[11][12]
On April 22, 2014, in a 6-2 decision, the Supreme Court held that the amendment was constitutional and did not violate the Equal Protection Clause. The opinion of the three justice plurality was delivered by Justice Anthony Kennedy. The plurality held that the case was about whether the voters of a state can choose to prohibit the use of race preferences in the decisions of governmental bodies, specifically with respect to school admissions, and that attempts to protect and define interested based on race run the risk of perpetuating the racism they seek to alleviate.
The plurality held that the court could not disempower voters from making the choice the Michigan voters made.[11][13]
