Mexican man gets prison after 7 deportations

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Mexican man arrested in Los Angeles after his seventh deportation has been sentenced to 51 months in a federal prison for illegally entering the U.S.

Julio Cesar Mata Sosa pleaded guilty in March to a single felony count of violating federal immigration laws.

He was arrested by immigration authorities in December upon his release from state prison on drug charges.

Prosecutors say the 34-year-old has admitted being a former gang member. He has prior convictions for burglary and robbery dating back to the 1990s.

Mata Sosa's attorney, public defender Brianna Fuller, declined to comment after Tuesday's sentencing.
