7,000 pounds of pot seized in Starr County

ESCOBARES - Authorities seized more than 7,000 pounds of marijuana from a home here early Tuesday morning.

Officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized the drugs with an estimated street value of nearly $5.6 million during a raid on a house on the south side of this small Starr County town, said Nina Pruneda, a spokeswoman with the agency.

The marijuana was found divided into 600 bundles. Two Mexican Nationals were arrested and are expected to be charged in federal court Wednesday on possession with intent to distribute.

Officials have not released their names. They also declined to provide an address of the house that was raided, citing an ongoing investigation.
